From brainstorming to editing to rendering, this vid was about a year in the making. When Jessica was introduced into the series at the end of the first season, I was determined to do a vid on her. I think I was always interested in the familial aspect in regards to her character. Initially I had something about her and the human family she left behind. It was only in season 2, as she wrangled with being a vampire, while Bill wrangled with and shirked his responsbility to her, that I could pin down what that "family" would be.

Except for a few weeks towards the end, when I was really struggling to finish this vid, I had an appalling amount of fun editing it. Mostly because I could get bombastic and over the top with the gore. I literally giggled as I found ways to insert yet another clip of someone getting eaten or blood spourting everywhere. :P

There are not enough True Blood vids, so I clicked the link from the vidding comm on Dreamwidth the minute I saw it, and wow. You manage to highlight a lot of character developments in such a short span. I love the frenetic pace of the vid, the clips you chose are great, and while I don't know the song and will have to watch it a few more times to catch the resonances, the song choice overall really worked for me. Excellent, thanks for posting!

And yeah, there are definitely not enough True Blood vids out there. At least, not ones that are all Bill/Sookie or Eric/Sookie. Don't get me wrong - I actually like both pairings - but there's so much more to the show that one could vid than the shippery stuff.

I'll honestly say that the pace was so frenetic I wasn't able to keep up with the lyrics (my fault), but the editing was so enjoyable that it made up for it in spades! Also, is it really an ‘ensemble character study’? I felt like I was watching Jess's story for the most part. OH AND! At 2:10 when Hoyt cries out with the music: AWESOME!! And dude there's a lot of great zooming in and out that made the whole piece feeling even more kinetic that I imagine it would have. And and and there I saw an eye-zoom or two! HWG's left her mark :P I definitely enjoyed all the blood and guts too, whooo. Ambitious, man, and very enjoyable!

The lyrics are mad crazy fast, so I understand completely. Thanks for saying so, though, cuz it reminded me to post the lyrics! :D

Haha, it is Jess's story, but it's also observationally, at least, about everyone around her.

One eye zoom was recommended in lieu of a different zoom by HWG, but the other eye zoom was something I put in by myself. Until you mentioned it, I didn't even remember HWG's thing for eye zooms, huh.

Wow, such an excellent vid! I was very happy to find this, especially since there don't seem to be enough True Blood vids. I loved the fast pace of the song and editing. Had no trouble making out most of the lyrics without having to read them either. *is not a native speaker* Have downloaded and watched 4-5 times already, thank you. :)

I usually don't watch a lot of True Blood videos (even tho I like the show), but I had to watch this one. I love Amanda Palmer, and this is the first video I've seen to any of her new songs. This was great in so many ways! I really loved the characters you chose to match up with each of the verses-you chose perfectly! Loved the fast paced clips, loved everything!

Oh wow, there's a *lot* in there! :D I really really enjoyed the focus of this and the way you tied the vamps together, along with how you brought in significant human characters. It's so slick and fast-paced, but you did a wonderful job picking shots that leave an impact/impression, even when they're only up for a fraction of a second. Everything is so crisp and clear, and it fits the frantic mood of the song just right.

It's a beautiful vid with a very fun concept behind it. :D

OMG that was so awesome!!!!

I saw Amanda Palmer AND True Blood in the same post and almost lost it. The two best things EVER combined! And the video SO lived up to it - such a lovely blend of pain and blood and all at amazing AFP speed!

That was really fabulous. Easily one of the most unique videos I've seen. I like Eric&Sookie fine and all but this was so refreshing. Excellently chosen song--gives a theme to all the madness.

Now this is just perfect. I was planning on writing a Jess ficlet tonight. Now it's inevitable.

I've watched this three times so far and it's still amazing. Jessica is definitely one of my favorite characters, and it's great to see such a well-put together vid of her! (Although it's kind of a study of the legacy of violence in vampires as a whole, isn't it?)

Heh, you hit the nail on the head there. Could be subtitled "Jessica's crappy inheritence".

Yeah, Jessica is one of my faves too, even if I really didn't like the Hoyt plotline all that much. I know, right. The schmoop was just too schmoopy, so I was kinda relieved when her vampirism (unfortunately and horribly) caught up with her. Can't wait to see what they do with her next season!

Okay, I just rec'd this on my journal and realized that I never actually left you feedback. *facepalm*

This is an amazing vid. Extremely well edited and the theme grabs me every time I view it. I have such a soft spot for Amanda Palmer's music and her voice just carries so much weight behind it that is a perfect compliment to her chaotic lyrics. And this song is no exception. You've managed to pull every resonating fiber from the lyrics and pounding piano to get your point across.

Also? Love the gore! =)

Wow, ...just... wow! This is so awesome. I watch the show but I'm not into the fandom and then I kinda stumbled over this and it makes me so happy!

I love this video. The song choice is perfect and what's more, the editing and clips work together SO well with the song itself. I just... I wish I knew how else to explain how I feel about this video, but I'm so not eloquent these days. Granted this is the only TB video I've seen, but I really feel like this is truly exceptional and if I were to be digging for more vids in this fandom nothing would touch this one. It says so much about the vampire line in the show and how this all affects Jessica and I love that it's both all about her, and shines a light on the rest of the TB vamps as well. Awesome, awesome job!

Wow, thank you so much for this. I'm totally blown away by this comment. :}

I really love Jessica - love in a fiercely poppa bear don't-mess-with-my-baby-vamp sense and I have loved her from the minute she popped on screen in season one. I just thought there was so much more to her story than her romance with Hoyt, which is what a lot of fandom has gravitated towards. (I like Hoyt, but she is not defined by her relationship to Hoyt.)

OMG, this is fabulous!! I love the frenetic pace of it; the feel of the Amanda Palmer track is perfect for Jessica, and I love all of the various meanings and implications of family: her blood-family (heh), her vampire family, all of the influences who shape her and make her who she is. And Hoyt! And Bill and Sookie and Eric and Godric! Oh, this is just excellent. I may have to watch it several more times today. :-)
